Organization: Paxton Ministries

Background: In Spring 2022, Paxton Ministries, emerging from the pandemic and under new leadership, sought strategic planning consultation to chart their course for the next 3-5 years. They turned to Rising Sun for assistance, valuing their shared faith-based values and deep community connections. Paxton Ministries, as a purpose-driven organization, needed a comprehensive Strategic Plan to guide their organization, provide clear direction, and invigorate their team with a unified purpose.
Why Rising Sun: Paxton Ministries selected Rising Sun because of their alignment with faith-based values and their strong local reputation. Rising Sun’s understanding of the community was crucial for developing a plan that resonated with Paxton’s mission.
Engagement Overview: The process began in November 2022 and concluded in April 2023. A team of senior management and board members collaborated with Rising Sun to develop key focus areas and strategies. This initial phase was followed by senior management and staff creating performance indicators. Rising Sun facilitated all sessions, from planning to implementation.
Results: “The strategic planning process fostered new energy and momentum within Paxton Ministries,” said David Zilka, Executive Director of Paxton Ministries. An external facilitator ensured authentic engagement, resulting in a highly regarded strategic plan. The plan also introduced a structured approach to addressing future challenges and opportunities.
Anecdote: The creation of “the jar” as a visual representation of the strategic plan illustrated the continuity of Paxton’s commitment to Christ-like love. This visual aid helped staff and constituents understand and embrace the strategic plan.
